2)highest point on Tonga- it’s very flat ;)

3) me snorkling at sun set

4) Lars in the ‘must have hammock’ on Uolewa Island

5) a beach just for me ;)   in the bay is a magnificent reef located. I swam there with a sting ray and a shark :-)

Tongariro Cossing and leaving NZ

Hi folks,

I returned from Tonga yesterday and now have  two more days in Auckland. So, here are a few pics from my last three days in NZ, when I did the famous Tongariro Crossing, a 6-8 hours walk. I needed exactly 8h for 23km and did a 3km extra bit around the South Crater. The Tongariro Crossing is a track on active vulcanic areas and you pass craters, crater lakes in different colours, mountain ridges offering various types of vulcanic rocks and on the last part of the track you walk trough New Zealand bush. You spend most of your time on around 2000m altitude.

1) South Crater in morning dust

2)Mt. Ngaurohe. seen in Lord of the Rings as Mt. Doom.  If you have a close look you can see the track on the crater passing the lake, climbing up the mountain range to the left.

3) Me somewhere on the extra walk posing in front of a crater lake ;) Behind the lake in the valley lays Taupo

4) a quite dangerous part of the track, I reckon…

5) goodbye New Zealand :)

A short break from hitch-hiking
A short break from hitch-hiking

Hi folks,

currently I am  travelling. I left the Bay of Islands some days ago (no clue when exactly, in which month are we anyway?) and hitch-hiked to Kataia and Cape Reinga in the very north of NZ. After some days there, I went down to Rotorua and met Jannik. Rotorua is so awesome that I am really thinking of spending a whole week here. But that would mean, that I needed to shorten up my way to Picton where I need to be on the 22nd of Dec.  So, I am in a  dilemma situation at the moment, but it could be worse ;)

Some fotos of the last 3 days or so are enhanced.  Sorry for the short comments, more information will be given some day.
